A Burlington man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after authorities found more than nine pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to court documents, Michael Alexander Patoir, 48, was stopped by law enforcement in March 2024. During the investigation, officers discovered more than 9½ pounds of methamphetamine in the backseat of the vehicle. Prosecutors said the drugs were intended for distribution.

On June 10, 2026, a federal judge sentenced Patoir to 10 years in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Following his prison term, Patoir will serve five years of supervised release. Federal inmates are not eligible for parole.

The case was announced by United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation was conducted by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force.
