Joyce Lorraine Sampson, 90, of Ottumwa died at 7:50 p.m. June 21, 2026 at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.
She was born January 10, 1936 in Webster City to Clyde and Carrie Walterman Hicks. Joyce married John David Sampson February 9, 1952 and he preceded her in death September 5, 1996.
Joyce worked at Dupeys Bakery, Standard Kollsman and was a cook for the Davis County Schools retiring in 1995.
She enjoyed volunteering at Hospice of Davis and Wapello County, traveling, spending time with bikers, fishing and was known for her baked bread.
Surviving are her children, John Sampson of Drakesville, Jim (Deb) Sampson of Blakesburg, and Robert”Bob” (Laura) Sampson of Drakesville; 7 grandchildren, Renee, Cassie, Keiko, Shane, Samantha, Tiffany and Adam; 2 step grandchildren, Kyle and Heidee; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a half-brother, Mike Hicks of Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Mary Sampson of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rick Sampson; a granddaughter, Brooke Sampson; a great granddaughter, Sofia Johnson; a brother Clyde Hicks Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Sue Sampson.
Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 25th, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Danny Cary officiating.
