Inmate Dies at Iowa Medical and Classification Center

An inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville died Friday morning.

According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, Keith Clayton Mesner, 69, died at 7:34 a.m. on June 19, 2026, while in the custody of the department.

Mesner was serving a sentence for crimes committed in Sac County. His incarceration began on August 30, 2024.

The Iowa Department of Corrections has not released additional details regarding the cause of death. As is standard procedure, the death will be reviewed by the appropriate authorities.

Mesner’s death occurred while he was housed at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center, the state’s primary intake and medical facility for incarcerated individuals.
