An inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville died Monday afternoon, according to the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Officials said Jimmy Lee Allen, 66, was pronounced dead at approximately 1:30 p.m. on June 8, 2026.
Allen had been incarcerated since November 12, 1982, serving a sentence for crimes committed in Polk County.
The Iowa Department of Corrections has not released additional details regarding the cause of death. As is standard procedure, the death will be reviewed by the appropriate authorities.
