A house fire on Thursday, June 4th left a Fairfield home with significant fire and water damage and sent one firefighter to the hospital, according to a statement from the Fairfield Fire Department.
The fire broke out at 300 W. Washington Street. No one was home when it started, and the cause remains under investigation. Fairfield Fire Chief Brett Ferrel said the fire appears to have been electrical in origin, beginning in the basement ceiling before spreading through the first and second floors and into the attic.
One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion during the response and was transported to Jefferson County Health Center by ambulance, where he was treated and released later that night.
The Fairfield Fire Department was assisted by Libertyville Fire and Rescue, the Fairfield Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson County Ambulance, and Alliant Energy.
