With a heart as vast as Lake Rathbun, the soul of Darla Christophersen filled every room with warmth and laughter. Born in Albia, Iowa, on April 18, 1967, to Richard and Darlene (Williams) Rogers, Darla spent her entire life as a beacon of joy in the community she loved. A true Iowa girl, she possessed a spirit as tenacious as her Iowa Hawkeyes and as enduring as the Fighting Irish of Note Dame, which were her favorite teams along with the San Francisco 49ers. Darla’s cheers echoed as powerfully as her infectious laughter. Her friends, her football, and her family (in that order, she’d always add with a wink), shaped the heart of a woman who loved fiercely and lived fully.
For 33 years, Darla was the energizing force at AYM in the plumbing parts manufacturing business. Later, she brought her vivacity to Kness Manufacturing, always providing a light in the workday. When she wasn’t rallying behind her teams, Darla could be found on Lake Rathbun, basking in the sunshine and boating in the company of her friends. Her hugs were legendary and as comforting as a warm blanket on a cold Iowa winter night. She was also an animal lover to her core. Darla’s love story with Carl Christophersen may have evolved from marriage to a profound friendship, but their bond remained unbroken.
She is survived by two sisters, Dana (Tony) Judge, Diana Rogers; nephews, Andy Judge, Jay (Jamie) Judge; niece, Lindsey (Ed) Meinders; aunts, Betty Bowling, Tish Sinnott; uncle, Pat D. Rogers, and many cousins, and endless friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Darlene Rogers; cousins, Leo and Roger Sinnott, Benny Rogers; grandparents and many aunts and uncles. As we mourn the loss of Darla, we also celebrate a life that was brimming with love, laughter, and an unwavering loyalty to her friends, her football, and yes, her family.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 2-4 p.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Memorials may be directed to the family.
