A farmer in west-central Iowa says crops are doing okay.

Brent Johnson grows corn and soybeans in Calhoun County.

“As a broad stroke, things actually look pretty decent. Of course there’s a lot of variability in that comment. But as far as what I’m experiencing at home, crops really look pretty good.”

He tells Brownfield it is a little dry.

“We could use some rain, it keeps getting forecast and then something keeps happening to it before it gets to our place. But then I talk with folks in either southern or eastern Iowa (and) they’ve had way too much.”

Johnson is the president of Iowa Farm Bureau.

USDA’s latest weekly crop update for Iowa rates 77 percent of corn and 74 percent of soybeans in good to excellent condition.
