Ottumwa Police responded to a report of a burglary after a suspect was allegedly seen entering a property without permission.
On April 4 at approximately 3:35 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Harvey Street for a reported burglary.
According to a criminal complaint, Lacey Mills, 41, of Ottumwa, was observed entering the property without permission.
Court records indicate Mills entered a vehicle parked on the property and took the keys from inside. She then allegedly fled the scene on foot from the victim’s residence before later being taken into custody by law enforcement.
Authorities reported that upon arrest, Mills was found in possession of the keys that had been taken from the victim’s vehicle.
Mills was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail before being released.
Mills has been charged with Burglary in the Third Degree (motor vehicle), an aggravated misdemeanor, and Theft in the Third Degree, also an aggravated misdemeanor. An arraignment was held on May 6.
