A section of U.S. Highway 34 near Albia will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, April 27th as part of a concrete pavement overlay project, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.

The closure covers U.S. 34 from 0.3 miles west of Iowa Highway 5 in Albia to 0.3 miles east of 550th Avenue. The road will close at 8 a.m. Monday and is expected to remain closed through the end of August, weather permitting.

Motorists will be detoured around the work zone using Iowa Highway 5, Iowa Highway 92, and Iowa Highway 14, which will be marked.

The Iowa DOT reminds drivers to use caution in and around work zones, obey posted speed limits and signage, and maintain ample space between vehicles. Traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in active work zones. Motorists are also reminded to wear seat belts at all times.
