Two people were injured Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash on westbound Highway 34 at Clayton Avenue in rural Henry County, according to a crash report from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:59 p.m. on April 23rd. According to the crash report, a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Collin Congdon, 22, of Donnellson, was traveling westbound on Highway 34 approaching Clayton Avenue when a 2014 Ford F-150 driven by Ronald Welcher, 82, of Mount Pleasant, attempted to cross the westbound lanes of Highway 34 to travel northbound on Clayton Avenue. Welcher failed to yield to Congdon’s vehicle, and the two collided in the second westbound lane of Highway 34. Welcher’s F-150 came to rest in the westbound ditch, while Congdon’s Silverado came to rest in the southbound lanes of Clayton Avenue.
Both drivers were injured in the crash. Welcher, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by MedForce 2. Congdon, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Henry County Health Center by Henry County Ambulance. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene of the crash.
