A late-night traffic stop on Highway 81 in Van Buren County led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the release, at approximately 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29th, a Van Buren County deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling north on Highway 81 for speeding. A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded 6.1 grams of marijuana and 31 grams of methamphetamine, along with several items consistent with the use and sale of narcotics, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Two individuals were arrested as a result of the search.
Amber Marie Swindler, 41, the driver of the vehicle, was charged with the following:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance — Methamphetamine — Third or Subsequent Offense (Class D Felony)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance — Marijuana — Third or Subsequent Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor)
Swindler’s bail was set at $5,000. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 8th.
Brian Curtis Ayers, 54, of Wayland, Missouri, a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with the following:
- Controlled Substance Violation (Class B Felony)
- Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp (Class D Felony)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance — Methamphetamine — Second Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance — Marijuana — Second Offense (Serious Misdemeanor)
Ayers’ bail was set at $30,000 cash or surety bond. His preliminary hearing is also scheduled for May 8th.
Both individuals remain in custody, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
