Keokuk County golf programs were back in action Tuesday, April 14th, with Sigourney competing at the Albia Invitational and Keota’s boys and girls teams traveling to Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon for a meet hosted by North Mahaska.
Sigourney at Albia Invitational
The Sigourney boys finished second out of eight teams at the 18-hole Albia Invitational on the par-72 course, posting a team score of 328, just five strokes behind host Albia’s winning total of 323. Fairfield was third with 348, Chariton fourth with 350, EBF fifth with 361, Davis County sixth with 370, Centerville seventh with 372, and Moravia eighth with 435.
Solon Yates claimed individual medalist honors with a 76 and two birdies, edging Carson Sohn of Albia who finished second with a 78. Jordan Tremmel placed third with a 79 and one birdie. Landon Conrad placed ninth with an 83 and one birdie, Ike Molyneux placed 21st with a 90, and Josh Wyatt placed 23rd with a 91. Chase Clarahan rounded out the varsity scorecard in 40th with a 100. Hayden Bensmiller placed 25th overall for junior varsity play with a 91.
Keota at North Mahaska Invitational
The Keota boys won the team title at Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon, posting a score of 164 on the par-35 nine-hole course to beat North Mahaska’s 182 and English Valleys’ 200.
Individual medalist honors went to Jaxon Vanderveer of North Mahaska with a 38. Porter Cave led Keota with a second-place finish at 40, recording one birdie. Blake Baker placed third with a 41, and Brennan McGuire placed fourth with a 41 and one birdie. Aspen Galindo finished fifth with a 42, Tucker Sprouse placed eighth with a 46, and Jacob Libe placed ninth with a 47 and one birdie.
The Keota girls competed on the par-36 course at Prairie Knolls as well, finishing second with a score of 240 behind North Mahaska’s winning total of 201 and ahead of English Valleys’ 244. North Mahaska’s Aly Steil won individual medalist honors with a 40. Brynn Conrad led Keota with a sixth-place finish at 53, Hadley Cave placed eighth with a 60, Halle Heisdorffer placed 11th with a 62, and Emily Conger rounded out the Keota scorecard in 12th with a 65.
