Morey Hill:

A central Iowa farmer says planting progress is starting to pick up steam in his area.

Morey Hill raises corn and soybeans near Madrid. “Everybody was sure anxious to get going there in mid-April, but the rains kept everybody out of the field including me until just this past week.”

He tells Brownfield that corn is his first priority.

“We keep reading that we should be planting soybeans earlier and earlier, but I’m not set up to do that yet.”

Hill says he was very concerned about dry conditions until the first day of April.

“We started getting rains, but then we got quite a bit of rain that second week of April when everybody thought they would be planting by the 10th.”

He says the recent moisture has helped replenish subsoils in his county.
