Officers responded to a report of an unauthorized person inside a manufacturing facility. The individual attempted to flee but was quickly taken into custody after being located inside the building.
On April 1 at approximately 4:09 a.m., the Oskaloosa Police Department received a report of a man inside the Oskaloosa Engineering and Manufacturing building located in the 1700 block of 3rd Avenue East, suspected of committing a burglary.
According to the criminal complaint, the caller reported that the male was hiding under a trailer inside the building. When officers arrived and made entry, Kevin Mogle, 46, of Oskaloosa, was seen near the south door. Upon noticing law enforcement, he turned and went back into the building.
Court documents state that officers entered the building and gave commands for Mogle to stop, but he continued to flee. He then ran out of the building in an attempt to escape the property. Officers were able to stop him and take him into custody.
The complaint further states that Mogle claimed he used a key to gain access to the building. Investigators determined that Mogle is a former employee who allegedly stole the key and other items. He also admitted to being inside the building to retrieve a refrigerator. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Mogle removing copper wire from inside the facility.
Mogle has been charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.
