A domestic dispute between a mother and daughter in Oskaloosa led to an arrest Thursday afternoon.

On March 26 at approximately 2:55 p.m., the Oskaloosa Police Department was dispatched to the 1300 block of 3rd Avenue West for a reported domestic assault. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim.

According to court documents, the victim said she and her mother, 69-year-old Penny Linville of Oskaloosa, had been involved in a verbal argument over whether certain items in the basement should be thrown away.

The victim told authorities she attempted to remove herself from the situation by going outside to the rear of the home to smoke. She reported that Linville followed her and tried to hold the door shut to lock her outside. As the victim attempted to keep the door open, Linville allegedly reached through the partially opened door and struck her in the face and arms.

Officers observed fresh red marks on the victim’s face, consistent with being hit by a hand or extended fingers.

Police then spoke with Linville inside the residence. She confirmed there had been an argument over items in the basement. According to the criminal complaint, Linville said the victim began calling her names, and while they were near the top of the stairs, she tried to push the victim out of the house, stating the situation “got out of hand.”

Authorities noted that the two live together at the residence and are mother and daughter.

Linville was taken into custody and transported to the Mahaska County Jail. She was later released on her own recognizance.

A no-contact order was issued on March 27. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 8.

Linville is charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness, a first-offense serious misdemeanor.
