A national retail store chain held a grand opening of its Ottumwa location Wednesday morning.

A few minutes before opening its doors for the first time, Ollie’s had a ribbon cutting that was attended by community stakeholders, employees, and most importantly, customers.

District Team Leader John Sheehan says Ollie’s opening in Ottumwa is part of a larger movement west for a company that is based in Pennsylvania.

“Most of our stores are in the east, and we are going to continue to expand west,” Sheehan says. “We’ve got the store opening today. We got another one in Davenport and another in Des Moines…so we have a lot of stores opening this year, anywhere between 76 to 80 stores.”

Sheehan says he was encouraged by the “soft opening” the store held last week. “We opened the doors on Thursday and it was nothing but wall to wall [customers].”

Before the ribbon cutting, Sheehan told stakeholders the employees working in the store are all Ottumwa residents with a handful of employees from other locations to help with the opening.

Sheehan says he’s excited to serve the Ottumwa community and told stakeholders what they should expect when walking down the aisles.

“You’ll see prices in here that you won’t see anywhere else,” Sheehan remarked.

Ollie’s is located on 1020 North Quincy Avenue.
