The Fairfield Beautification Commission’s annual Street Sweepers Ball drew more than 30 volunteers Saturday, April 18th, as community members braved windy and cold conditions to help clean up and beautify downtown Fairfield.
Volunteers spent the morning and afternoon picking up trash, clearing leaves, and tending to the garden nodes that decorate Central Park and the sidewalks nearby. The event, which has also been known in past years as the Spring Clean Up, has become a spring staple for the commission and the community alike. The focus remains the same each year — making downtown Fairfield look its best by clearing unwanted debris and sprucing up the green spaces that give the area its character.
The day also produced at least one unexpected moment, as a Girl Scout volunteer pulled a full onion straight from the ground during the cleanup.
Pizza Hut and Everybody’s Whole Foods kept the volunteer crew fueled throughout the day with pizza and snacks. The Beautification Commission expressed gratitude for the turnout and the community spirit on display.
“It was a joy to see so many familiar and new faces working side by side and taking the time to connect,” the commission shared. “Thank you all.”
