A southeast Iowa man is now at the center of a serious criminal case involving alleged medical fraud and financial crimes tied to a rural clinic.
Authorities say 36-year-old Eddie Gingerich of Moravia was taken into custody on April 22 following an investigation by the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office. According to court documents, Gingerich is accused of operating as a medical provider and dietitian without holding a valid license at a facility known as Old Cabin Retreat in Centerville.
Investigators allege that over a period stretching from April 2023 through February 2026, individuals sought care at the clinic believing they were receiving legitimate medical treatment. Instead, officials claim Gingerich provided unqualified care and gave misleading health guidance. Reports indicate that some of those who visited the facility suffered serious harm, with authorities stating there were confirmed cases involving both injury and death.
Financial records reviewed during the investigation suggest Gingerich collected a substantial amount of money through the operation—nearly $887,000—which law enforcement believes was obtained unlawfully. Officials further allege that a portion of those funds was used to purchase property, leading to additional charges related to money laundering.
The case remains under investigation as it moves through the court system, and officials have not released further details about potential additional victims or charges.
