Hy-Vee Launches Low-Cost Blood Sugar Testing Initiative

Shoppers across the Midwest will have a new opportunity this month to check in on their health without breaking the bank.

Throughout April, Hy-Vee is rolling out discounted A1C screenings at more than 100 of its store locations, making it easier for people to monitor their blood sugar levels and catch potential issues early.

The tests, which are typically priced much higher, will be offered at a significantly reduced rate—$15 for one screening or $20 for two. The option to purchase a second test allows customers to share with a family member or hold onto it for future use.

Each screening is conducted by a registered dietitian and involves a quick finger-stick sample. The A1C test provides an overview of a person’s average blood sugar levels over the past two to three months, helping to flag signs of prediabetes or diabetes. No fasting is needed, and results are available on the spot, followed by a brief consultation to go over the findings.

Those interested will need to sign up in advance to secure a spot. While the screenings must be purchased during April, appointments can be scheduled for a later date if needed.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to expand access to preventative health services and is being supported through partnerships with several national brands, including Abbott, Dave’s Killer Bread, Embecta, and OLIPOP.

With limited availability, customers are encouraged to reserve their screenings early before appointments fill up.
