The Fairfield girls golf team turned in their best finish since their season-opening victory on April 6th, placing second out of the six conference teams Monday, April 20th at the Mount Pleasant Golf and Country Club on the par-36 nine-hole course.

Fort Madison won the team title with a score of 200, just five strokes ahead of Fairfield’s 205. Keokuk finished third with 209, Mount Pleasant fourth with 211, Washington fifth with 213, and Burlington sixth with 306.

Fort Madison’s Kylie Lumino won individual medalist honors with a 43, followed by Adalyn Long of Washington in second with a 45. Vanessa Kessel led Fairfield with a fifth-place finish at 49 with one birdie, followed by Aries Wagner in sixth at 51 and Ella Bentler ninth at 52. Janell Ferguson placed 11th with a 53, Kylie Felt 22nd with a 59, and Kate Brecount rounded out the Fairfield scorecard in 29th with a 71.

Girls coach Hattie Peck was pleased with the performance, particularly given the improved course conditions compared to recent meets. “The girls golf team turned in a strong performance at today’s meet, finishing second overall,” Peck said. “While the players felt they left a few shots out on the course, I was pleased with how they competed and represented the team. The course was in excellent condition, dry and much improved from recent meets. The team benefited from beautiful weather throughout the day. Overall, it was a solid showing and a step forward for the group.”

Fairfield will be back in action on Thursday, April 23rd at the Golden Hawk Girls Golf Invitational at the Kalona Golf Course, where they will face 10 others teams.
