The Fairfield girls and boys track and field teams competed Thursday, April 9th at the 2026 Washington Demon Relays, with the boys finishing fifth in the team standings and the girls placing 10th in a large and competitive field that featured several meet records throughout the evening.

Boys Highlights
The story of the night for Fairfield was Eli Zillman, who cleared 6-07.50 in the high jump to set a new meet record and earn an automatic qualifier for the Drake Relays. Blake Burnett added a third-place finish in the same event, clearing 5-10.
Zillman also had a strong showing in the long jump, placing second with a leap of 20-06.50 behind winner Thomas Lueck of Mid-Prairie at 20-08. Spencer McCready was fourth at 19-06 and Kris Powell 11th at 17-08.
In the sprints, Eli Hoffman placed seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.63 behind winner Ryan Henry of Mid-Prairie at 10.98, with Stephen Davisson 20th in 13.50. In the 200-meter dash, Hoffman placed third in 24.11 and Tucker Robertson 10th in 25.19 behind winner Nolan Jergens of Mid-Prairie at 23.14. Jacob Crew placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 55.89 and Angel Quimby 13th in 1:05.98 behind winner Caleb Bohlmann of Tipton at 51.34.
In the hurdles, Blake Burnett placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.59 and Sawyer McCready 13th in 18.92 behind winner Carson Humphrey of Mid-Prairie at 15.37. Elijah Hamilton placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.76 and Maddox Rebling 10th in 1:08.03 behind winner Nolan Hemann of West Delaware at 57.83.
In the distance events, John Miller placed sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:11.61 and Parker Reid seventh in 2:11.86 behind winner Nolan Guzman of Fort Madison at 2:02.24. Brice Boatright placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:11.92, Clae Cass ninth in 5:15.15, and Jordan Miller 18th in 5:40.79 behind winner Andrew Rees of Washington at 4:41.79. Jordan Miller also placed eighth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:00.84 behind winner Silas Hulett of Mount Pleasant at 9:59.60.
In the relays, the 4×200 team of Eli Hoffman, Voss Richardson, Dayson Workman, and Ethan Bisgard placed second in 1:31.94, just behind meet-record setter Mid-Prairie at 1:31.01, with a second Fairfield team placing 14th in 1:45.80. The 4×100 team of Dayson Workman, Voss Richardson, Ethan Bisgard, and Spencer McCready also placed second in 44.63 behind Mid-Prairie’s meet-record 43.55, with a second team featuring Grant Bisgard, Brentley Meyer, Eli McGuire, and Mathis Tovar placing 17th in 52.08. The 4×400 team of Jacob Crew, Eli Hoffman, Brock Atwood, and John Miller placed fifth in 3:47.53. The 4×800 team of River Fulton, Elijah Hamilton, Brice Boatright, and Parker Reid placed fifth in 8:58.75. The distance medley team of Tucker Robertson, Jaxon Coleman, Brock Atwood, and River Fulton placed fifth in 4:00.22. The 800-meter sprint medley team of Dayson Workman, Voss Richardson, Ethan Bisgard, and John Miller placed fifth in 1:40.41, with a second team of Jaxon Coleman, Kris Powell, Grant Bisgard, and Maddox Rebling placing 12th in 1:49.22. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Spencer McCready, Blake Burnett, Sawyer McCready, and Eli Zillman placed fourth in 1:06.40 behind meet winner Mid-Prairie at 1:03.30.
In the throws, Aiden Mizelle placed ninth in the discus at 114-08, Clayton Greiner 15th at 104-00, and William Bryant 20th at 91-02 behind meet-record setter Greyson Hartman of Washington at 177-04. In the shot put, Bryant placed 21st at 32-08.50, Mizelle 24th at 32-01, and Greiner 31st at 27-01 behind Hartman, who also broke the meet record in the shot put at 64-11.50.
Boys head coach Brian Dunlap was pleased with the team’s performance, especially Eli Zillman who got back in the groove. “Eli had a nice night in the jumps,” Dunlap said. “6-7 is an automatic qualifier for the Drake Relays. The boys sprint relays ran some solid times in tough conditions.”
Girls Highlights
Alex Jo Steward led Fairfield’s girls in the distance events, placing fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 12:15.45, with Caroline Van Pelt seventh in 12:45.44 and Bailey Belzer eighth in 13:38.26 behind winner Avery Rump of Fort Madison at 10:28.31. Steward also placed ninth in the 800-meter run in 2:59.57 and Fatima Baez 11th in 3:16.77 behind winner Emma Horak of Washington at 2:35.74. Van Pelt placed 13th in the 1,500-meter run in 5:58.73 and Belzer 17th in 6:27.32 behind meet-record setter Avery Fedler of Mount Pleasant at 4:46.36.
In the sprints, Iris Lane placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.75 and Maddy Martin 11th in 14.49 behind winner Mylee Stiefel of Burlington at 12.66. In the 200-meter dash, Samantha Lyons placed seventh in 28.07 and Iris Lane eighth in 28.36 behind winner Mylee Stiefel of Burlington, who broke the meet record with a time of 25.86. Isabel McCready placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.12 and Aislinn Wise 16th in 22.14 behind winner Sofia Schulte of West Delaware at 16.30.
In the relays, the 800-meter sprint medley team of Isabel McCready, Lauren Martin, Iris Lane, and Samantha Lyons placed fifth in 2:01.07, with a second team of Olivia Manning, Aislinn Wise, Ryelan Schnoebelen, and Aubrey Ryan placing 20th in 2:18.31. The 4×200 team of Samantha Lyons, Maddy Martin, Lauren Martin, and Allie Hammes placed fifth in 1:58.17, with a second team of Olivia Manning, Aubrey Ryan, Zehra Erdem, and Laney Bowers placing 18th in 2:21.56 behind meet-record setter West Delaware at 1:46.73. The 4×100 team of Isabel McCready, Maddy Martin, Iris Lane, and Kensley Fligg placed seventh in 54.51, with a second team of Lauren Martin, Olivia Manning, Allie Hammes, and Samantha Lyons placing 13th in 57.52 behind winner Mount Pleasant at 50.91.
In the field events, Elyse Setterstrom placed fourth in the discus at 105-09 and ninth in the shot put at 31-03 behind meet-record setter Kylee Hill of Burlington, who broke records in both events — winning the discus at 137-00 and the shot put at 46-05. Nora McReynolds placed 24th in the discus at 57-02 and 17th in the shot put at 25-11. Kensley Fligg and Allie Hammes tied for fifth in the long jump, both clearing 14-00 behind winner Ella Hein of Tipton at 17-01.
Girls head coach Jerrod Belzer was happy with the results. “We are really happy with how well we performed last night,” Belzer said. “The kids had a lot of PR’s and season best marks. The conditions were less than ideal but we still went out and competed at a high level the entire meet.”
