Fairfield’s golf program opened the 2026 season on a high note Monday, April 6th, with the girls team claiming a team title at Washington and the boys finishing runner-up in a home meet.
Girls Results
The Fairfield girls opened their season with a first-place team finish at the Washington Golf & Country Club, posting a score of +66 to edge out Mount Pleasant (+70), Fort Madison (+72), Washington (+78), Keokuk (+86), and Burlington (+133).
Medalist honors were shared by Carrigan Morris of Keokuk and Sophia Walderbach of Mount Pleasant, who each finished at +12. Ellanor Bentler and Vanessa Kessel led Fairfield individually, both finishing tied for third at +13. Aries Wagner added a sixth-place finish at +15, Kylie Felt placed 18th at +25, Kate Brecount was 23rd at +27, and Addison Qualters rounded out the scorecard in 24th at +28.
Girls co-head coach Makenzie Champ was pleased with how the team performed in their season opener despite the conditions. “It was a cold round, but very fun,” Champ said. “Great start to our season. The girls are very excited.”
The girls will have their home opener this week on Thursday.
Boys Results
The Fairfield boys opened their season at the Fairfield Golf & Country Club, finishing second out of five teams with a score of 164 on a par-35 course. Washington won the team title with 153, while Mount Pleasant was third with 166, Fort Madison fourth with 176, and Keokuk fifth with 199.
Rajan Roth of Washington claimed individual medalist honors with a 36. Fairfield was led by a trio of experienced upperclassmen — Drew Myers, Archer Kreuter, and Luke Thornton — who each shot a 40 to tie for sixth place. Xavier Kessel finished 14th with a 44, Dain Burkhart placed 18th with a 46, and Quinn Settles rounded out the varsity lineup in 28th with a 60. Myers also recorded a birdie on hole one, and Kessel added a birdie on hole four.
In junior varsity action, Mason Crew shot a 52, Liam Hunter finished with a 54, Arush Patel shot a 61, Ian Stanley finished with a 62, and Maxxon Zaragoza rounded out the JV scorecard with a 64.
Boys head coach Mick Flattery was encouraged by the team’s opening performance. “Really good start for us here at home,” Flattery said. “Really like seeing our top three experienced guys at 40. League will be tough with some great meets ahead of us. Thursday at Fort Madison is next.”
