A southwest Iowa farmer says planting is in full swing in his area following some recent rains.
Duane Aistrope raises corn and soybeans in Fremont County.
“We’ve had some issues with our planter. Did a bunch of computer updates and stuff and they weren’t talking to each other. But, a lot of guys are out there planting and hitting it hard.”
He tells Brownfield his soil conditions have been improving.
“We’ve had some nice rains. Can’t complain at all about the rains. We didn’t get much over the winter, which made it an absolutely beautiful calving season for us. Not complaining about that, but we sure could have used the moisture over winter.”
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows nearly all of southwest Iowa is no longer listed under a drought-related category.
