An Ottumwa woman faces two felony drug charges following a traffic stop in Fairfield on Wednesday, March 25th.
Brianna McConnell, 25, was charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance — Third or Subsequent Offense, both Class D felonies, after officers allegedly discovered heroin in her shoe during the stop.
According to court documents, McConnell was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over at approximately 3:59 p.m. The Jefferson County K9 unit conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics. When McConnell exited the vehicle, officers observed a hypodermic needle sticking out of her shoe. A search revealed a baggie containing a black powdery substance, which McConnell admitted was heroin. Court documents note that McConnell has two prior convictions under Iowa Code Chapter 124.
McConnell was held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond, which she has since posted. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 6th.
