A local police department responded to multiple reports of individuals using a vehicle to harass members of the public.

On March 20th at approximately 4:16 p.m., the Oskaloosa Police Department responded to a report at Lacey Stadium in Oskaloosa. The victim stated that while she was in the parking lot, a black GMC pulled up, and several males jumped out and sprayed her in the face with squirt guns without provocation.

Shortly after, at around 4:40 p.m., police received another report from a motorist traveling northbound on IA Highway 142. The driver reported that as his vehicle passed a black GMC going southbound, an object was thrown from the GMC and struck the front driver’s side of his car.

Officers later stopped the black GMC and identified Olivia Castaneda, 18, of New Sharon, as the driver. During questioning, Castaneda admitted that she was driving two juvenile males who were jumping out at various locations to spray strangers with squirt guns and throw sauce packets. Court documents indicate that Castaneda acknowledged she knew of their plan and even stopped the vehicle to allow the juveniles to exit and carry out the pranks.

Castaneda was arrested and transported to the Mahaska County Jail before being released. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for April 15th.

She is facing charges of two counts of assault (simple misdemeanor) and one count of fifth-degree criminal mischief (simple misdemeanor).
