With a fondness for laughter and a heart filled with warmth, we remember the life of Nancy Lynn DeMoney, who passed with family by her side on March 20, 2026. Born on April 1, 1947, in Sterling, IL, she was a woman who lived her life with a smile and an infectious sense of humor.
Our loving and generous Nancy was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother whose family was her greatest joy. Her quick wit was only matched by her dedication to those she loved. Nancy enjoyed the simple pleasures in life; a good book, a winning slot machine, and most importantly, the joyous chaos of family life. After tying the knot on June 25, 1966, in Sterling, IL, Nancy and her beloved husband Don were married for nearly 60 years. Not long after marriage, Nancy and Don moved to Eddyville, IA, where they raised a family and remained until moving to Waukee, IA, in 2023. While Nancy worked various jobs outside the home, her primary calling and first priority in life was being a wife and mother. Her greatest joy was supporting her children and grandchildren, going to as many sporting events, dance competitions, music concerts and other activities as possible. Family and friends alike will always remember Nancy’s cooking, Christmas candy, and baking — especially her pies. Nancy loved creating memories, traveling to nearly all 50 states and a once-in-a-lifetime cruise through the Panama Canal. Nancy was an avid scrapbooker who spent many hours creatively compiling photos and written memories of cherished moments and vacations.
Nancy is survived by her husband Don DeMoney of Waukee, Michelle (David) Lee of Chatham, IL, Jamie (Amy) DeMoney of Waukee; four grandchildren, Kelsie Lee and Katie (Quinn) Speaks, Kinzley and Kacen DeMoney; one great granddaughter, Emmy Lou Speaks; siblings Dona Tegeler and Larry Virtue. She was preceded in death by parents Donald and Mae Virtue, her sister and brother-in-law Linda and John Ross, brother Ron Virtue, sister-in-law Marie Virtue, and brother-in-law Paul Tegeler.
A visitation and celebration of life service will be held at the First Christian Church, located at 406 North 5th Street, Eddyville, IA, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11. We invite all who knew and loved Nancy to join us in celebrating her life and sharing memories of her.
We encourage friends and loved ones to share their memories and photos of Nancy on her memorial page. These will serve as a comforting reminder of the love and joy that Nancy brought into our lives. Memorials may be directed to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa or to the family.
