Schneider spoke to Brownfield during the recent WPS Farm Show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
An agricultural banker says most farmers are navigating through today’s economic challenges, but it’s more difficult for some.
Chris Schneider from Nicolet National Bank tells Brownfield the effect on operating loans has been consistent. “You know, obviously, operating loans have increased because of input costs going up, but in general, they’ve stayed so-much-per-acre.”
Schneider says farmers should focus on things they can control, like expenses. “Any of the expenses you can control, there’s always probably ten smaller expenses that you can decrease by five percent each, and that adds up to a big number.”
Schneider says when farmers are satisfied with how their balance sheets look, he still tells them to fine-tune the operation to make or save that extra dollar because liquidity helps get through tough times.
