According to authorities, an argument between two individuals escalated, resulting in a physical altercation and damage to a door inside the home.
On March 4 at approximately 11:50 p.m., the Knoxville Police Department responded to the 800 block of South 2nd Street for a report of a domestic dispute.
According to a criminal complaint, officers spoke with a female resident of the home who reported that her boyfriend, 23-year-old Devin Rus of Knoxville, arrived at the residence intoxicated. An argument reportedly began inside the home and continued outside.
The victim told officers she was attempting to get back inside the residence and close the door when Rus allegedly forced the door open, causing her to fall backward and strike her knee.
Officers reported observing fresh damage to the door, and internal components of the door handle were found lying on the floor inside the residence.
Rus was later located and taken into custody. He is currently being held in the Marion County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.
Rus has been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury or Mental Illness, First Offense, a serious misdemeanor. A no-contact order was issued on March 5.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for March 13.
