The Knoxville Police Department responded to a reported domestic assault involving a father and his adult son.
On March 6th at approximately 1:05 PM, the Knoxville Police Department was dispatched to the 400 block of E. Jefferson Street in response to a reported assault between a father and his adult son.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with Edward Norrell, 42, of Knoxville, as well as his father. Court records indicate that Norrell and his father are family/household members and have been residing together since approximately January 20, 2026.
According to the criminal complaint, a verbal argument broke out between Norrell and his father over a cell phone. The situation escalated when Norrell allegedly began striking his father in the head. Officers reported that Norrell struck his father multiple times before walking away. The father told law enforcement that he intended to call authorities to report the assault.
Court documents state that upon hearing this, Norrell returned, slapped the cell phone out of his father’s hand while he was attempting to place the call, and continued to assault him in the head. The father reported that Norrell struck him approximately six to seven times in total.
Police observed red discoloration on the sides and back of the father’s head, as well as on the hand he had been using to hold the phone. Norrell admitted to law enforcement that he had engaged in a physical altercation with his father.
Edward Norrell is currently being held at the Marion County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond. He faces charges of domestic assault – bodily injury, first offense (serious misdemeanor), obstruction of emergency communications (simple misdemeanor), and a parole violation.
