Efforts are underway to launch a high school boarding school for sustainable agriculture and energy in north-central Oklahoma.

Founder Jim Curl says Plains Preparatory Institute aims to be a hands-on learning environment for boys in 9th through 12th grade.

“We’re hoping to open in the fall of ’27, that may have to change. We may have to start in a local church before we can build our facilities, and we would still bus the kids out to get the experiences on the farm.”

He tells Brownfield the nonprofit school will place a heavy emphasis on STEM learning.

“The students will have access to all of the rural benefits of growing up and get that hands on experience, so we are in the capitalization phase of raising money.”

As a retired teacher and semi-retired farmer, Curl says it has been his goal to create a boys boarding school for generations to come.
