A Fairfield man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he was in possession of a firearm while causing a disturbance at a Van Buren County convenience store.
Randy Reid, 55, was arrested Sunday morning, March 1st, after a deputy responded to a report of a disturbance at the Milton Jet Stop shortly before 9 a.m.
According to court documents, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office received complaints that Reid was blocking gas pumps with his vehicle and approaching customers to solicit money, causing them to feel uncomfortable and unsafe. Witnesses also reported seeing Reid carrying what appeared to be a gun case. Authorities noted that Reid had previously been issued a trespass warning at the business a few days prior on Friday, February 27th.
When the responding deputy arrived, Reid was observed exiting the store holding a black soft gun case. He was detained without incident.
Law enforcement officials say Reid is a convicted felon with multiple prior felony convictions. A search of the gun case allegedly revealed a Ruger 9mm pistol and two loaded magazines. Investigators also found legal paperwork bearing Reid’s name inside the case.
Authorities further state that the firearm was reported stolen from the Des Moines metro area. Reid is currently under supervision with the Iowa Department of Corrections through June 2026.
He has been charged with dominion or control of a firearm by a felon, a Class D felony; trafficking in stolen weapons – first offense, also a Class D felony; and first-offense trespassing, a scheduled violation.
Following his initial court appearance, Reid was held on a $5,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing is set for March 11th.
