The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary reported the evening of February 15 in the 2000 block of Highway 92 in Oskaloosa.
According to a criminal complaint, Jacob Lowe, 41, of Rose Hill, allegedly forced entry into a residence with the intent to commit theft. Deputies say several items from different rooms were gathered and staged in the kitchen, apparently to make it easier to remove them to a waiting vehicle in fewer trips.
Items listed by authorities included a compound bow valued at about $150, camera equipment worth roughly $300, and a cell phone that the owner said had been in the basement but was later found outside on the ground. An iPad belonging to the victim was also reported missing.
Court records state Lowe admitted during a phone call that he had been inside the home, and multiple witnesses reportedly identified him as being in or near the residence. Deputies initially were unable to locate him.
An arrest warrant was served the following day. Lowe is currently being held in the Mahaska County Jail on a $5,000 surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 25.
He faces a charge of third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, as well as a parole violation.
