Law enforcement investigated a reported assault at an Ottumwa residence, where a victim suffered visible injuries. The incident resulted in an arrest and the filing of criminal charges.
On December 31 at approximately 7:07 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 100 block of North Davis Street in reference to an assault.
Upon arrival, officers located 54-year-old Carry Edgington of Ottumwa at the victim’s residence.
According to the criminal complaint, Edgington struck the victim multiple times with a closed fist. The victim sustained redness and swelling beneath her right eye and reported that the actions were painful and offensive.
Edgington was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Wapello County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 17.
Edgington is charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor.
