Authorities say an inmate at the Wapello County Jail is facing additional charges after an incident involving a corrections officer.

According to the Wapello County Sheriff Department, deputies were dispatched to the jail around 6:14 p.m. on December 16 for a reported assault. A criminal complaint states that Landon Mull, 21, of Ottumwa, was observed on camera engaging in a closed-fist altercation with a jailer.

Law enforcement reports indicate Mull was standing outside his cell with the door open and was instructed to return inside. He allegedly refused and responded “No” when told to comply. When the jailer attempted to guide him back into the cell, authorities say Mull interfered with the officer’s lawful duties and threw a water bottle, striking the jailer in the leg.

Mull remains in custody and faces additional charges including assault on persons in certain occupations (aggravated assault) and disorderly conduct for fighting or violent behavior, a simple misdemeanor. Court records show an order for continuance was filed February 11, followed by a motion to withdraw counsel on February 12. His arraignment is scheduled for February 18, and bond has been set at $2,000.
