First Responders Called to Fatal Farm Emergency Tuesday Morning

Emergency crews responded to a fatal farming accident Tuesday morning in rural Mahaska County, according to the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say responders were dispatched at about 10:13 a.m. to a residence near the intersection of 175th Street and Jersey Avenue after receiving a report that an elderly man had fallen into a grain bin and become trapped. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered the individual had died at the scene.

Officials confirmed multiple agencies assisted with the response and recovery efforts, including the Mahaska County Dispatch Center, Oskaloosa Fire Department, New Sharon Fire Department, New Sharon Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Mahaska Health Partnership, and the Oskaloosa Water Department.

The incident remains under official review.
