A 38-year-old Fairfield man faces a felony charge following an alleged domestic assault on Monday morning, February 16th.

Jonathan Bowers has been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault – Impeding Air/Blood Flow Causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony.

According to court documents, officers responded around 9 a.m. to the 300 block of West Adams Avenue in Fairfield regarding an active domestic disturbance. The victim called 911 reporting that she had been assaulted and needed assistance.

Prior to officers’ arrival, Bowers also contacted 911, stating that he had not assaulted the victim, that she was lying on the ground, and that he wanted her removed from the residence. Upon arrival, Bowers answered the door but advised officers that he would not be leaving the residence.

Officers located the victim in an upstairs bedroom shared by both parties. According to court records, the victim had a large, bleeding bump on her head. Her nose was bleeding, and she had a split lip. Officers observed significant red marks on both sides of her neck, along with a scratch. Both of the victim’s arms appeared swollen.

The victim stated that when she woke up, Bowers was upset and accused her of stealing his medication. She further stated that Bowers had been in a psychotic state for the previous several days, during which he was allegedly abusing his medication and would forget that he had already taken it.

The court documents indicate that while the victim was in bed, Bowers began allegedly striking her face with closed fists. During the assault, Bowers attempted to pick up the victim’s purse. When the victim attempted to grab the purse, Bowers pushed her to the ground. While the victim was lying on the ground, Bowers allegedly kicked her face, neck, and back.

Officers asked the victim about the swelling on her arms and the red marks on both sides of her neck. The victim stated that the swelling on her arms was caused by Bowers holding her down during the assault. The victim stated that she could not recall exactly when Bowers placed his hands around her throat but believed it may have occurred either during an assault the previous night or during the current assault.

Bowers is currently being held at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility with a $5,000 cash or surety bond. His preliminary hearing is set for February 26th. A no contact order has been requested in this case.
