Timothy Terrence McGee, 76, of rural Blakesburg died at 6:30 p.m. January 23, 2026 at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.

Tim was born December 2, 1949 at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa. The son of Corneilias John McGee Jr. and Virginia Sue Hartness. He was the grandson of Corneilias Patrick McGee and Frances Ceceilia Costello and Clifford Sheridan Hartness Sr. and Mabel Comer.

Tim grew up at a large farm on Route 3 Mantua Twp, Monroe County Iowa with siblings, Jerry Gordon McGee, Mabel Frances McGee Schluessler, Linda Sue McGee Davis, Neil “Sonny” John McGee III, and Scarlett Renee McGee Salladay.

Tim attended Rural County Schools beginning at Chidester School, then Jack Oak School, moving to Albia Public Schools during 6th grade. Tim graduated Albia High School in 1967. He graduated from Ottumwa Heights College in 1969. Tim moved to the University of Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, a poet of latent brilliance as well as a short story writer he also obtained a minor in computer programing in 1971.

Using computer skills, he worked at Maytag in Newton, IA for several years, then heading west, working in Eugene, OR and Seattle, WA with Boeing 747 Jets, then on to Everett, Snohomish County, WA.

He retired and moved back to Iowa where he worked at William Penn University, as well as mowing cemeteries. Tim purchased a farm in Wapello County, where he enjoyed his garden, orchard, lilacs, and especially guitars, which he furnished to every member of the family willing to give guitar a try.

Tim is survived by sisters, Mabel McGee Schluessler (Norm), Linda McGee Davis, Scarlett Salladay (Erwin Ballanger); nieces & nephews, Samantha McGee Cooper, Cindy McGee Johnson, Shawn Mc Gee (Pam), Justin Schluessler (Melissa), Travis Schluessler (Amy), Linnea Schluessler-Kim, (Paul), Laurel Schluessler, Russ McGee, Tammy McGee Groenendyk, Dusty McGee Moorman (Mike), Dakota Ballanger.

In addition to parents, Tim was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry G McGee on June 3, 2024 and Neil “Sonny” McGee July 24, 2020.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday January 30th at Reece Funeral Home with his nephew, Pastor Justin Schluesler officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery in Monroe County. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service.
