Law enforcement detained a suspect for violating two active protective orders by contacting the victim, leading to their current custody.
On January 3rd, at approximately 3:38 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department executed a warrant for Gregory Baird, a resident of Ottumwa, due to a violation of a no-contact order.
Court filings indicate that Baird had made calls and sent messages to the victim in violation of the protective orders. When questioned by law enforcement, Baird admitted to sending these messages and provided a call log showing outgoing calls to the victim from his phone.
It is important to note that Baird and the victim have two active protective orders in place, dated September 22, 2025, and September 23, 2025.
Currently, Baird is being held at the Wapello County Jail on charges of violating the no-contact order/protective order, classified as contempt, a simple misdemeanor. A cash/surety bond of $300 has been set, but no preliminary hearing has been scheduled at this time.
