An individual was arrested for attempted burglary after attempting to access two vehicles parked on private property.
On January 25th, at approximately 10:41 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a call regarding a burglary on North Elm Street.
Law enforcement officers reviewed the victim’s security footage, which showed Carson Lewis, 20, of Ottumwa, entering the victim’s property where two private vehicles were parked in the driveway. Lewis attempted to enter both vehicles, but was denied access as both were securely locked.
The Ottumwa Police located Lewis shortly afterward and placed him under arrest. He was transported to the Wapello County Jail, where he was later released on a $2,000 cash/surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 6th.
Lewis is charged with two counts of attempted burglary in the third degree (vehicle/vessel), classified as a serious misdemeanor.
