An Oskaloosa man is facing criminal charges following a series of events that began at a local bar and ended with a hit-and-run investigation spanning two communities.

According to court documents, on January 3, Adam Stanhope was at Hot Shotz Bar in Oskaloosa, where bar staff cut him off from further alcohol service. Stanhope later left the establishment in a vehicle.

Shortly afterward, Stanhope was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of South D Street and 11th Avenue West. Police reports state that he became stuck on a guardrail near 420 11th Avenue West. While attempting to remove his truck from the guardrail, Stanhope drove into another vehicle that was assisting him.

Stanhope then left the scene and continued driving to Beacon, where he parked the vehicle at a friend’s residence before walking to another home in the area. He was later identified by a friend who had also been present at Hot Shotz Bar earlier that evening.

Court records indicate Stanhope’s driver’s license is currently barred due to a Habitual Offender status from June 30, 2025, through June 29, 2027. In addition, his license is suspended due to nine withdrawals for nonpayment of Iowa fines.

Stanhope was arrested and transported to the Mahaska County Jail. He was later released after posting a $2,000 surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 14.

Stanhope is charged with Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor.
