Marilyn J. Hutchinson, 92, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Ottumwa, died at 7:24 p.m. January 9, 2026 at Mahaska Health Hospital in Oskaloosa.
She was born May 14, 1933 in Ottumwa to Donald Warren and Woneta Hildred Dotson Cobler. She married Robert D. Hutchinson November 21, 1954 and he preceded her in death December 25, 2016.
A 1952 graduate of Ottumwa High School, she had operated the concession stand at the drive-in theater. After raising her family, she had worked in the Wapello County Recorder’s office for over 10 years.
Marilyn had been a member of Ottumwa Chapter #112 Order of Eastern Star as well as Rainbow Girls when she was young. She had participated in 4-H and was a 4-H Leader.
Since May 15, 2024, she has been a resident of Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa where her great-granddaughter, Ryan Meeth works. Marilyn had been nominated the Resident Council President and was beloved by all of the staff and residents.
Surviving are her children, Douglas Ken (Blanca) Hutchinson of Fremont, NE and Donneta Kay (Robert) Luke of Eldon; 3 grandchildren, Melissa, Brenda and Amber; 8 great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Cobler of Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Cobler; and her son, Dallas Hutchinson.
Her body has been cremated. Graveside services and inurnment will be 1 p.m. Friday, January 16th at McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center. A reception will follow at the Harry L. Anderson American Legion Post #34 hall at 302 High Ave. E. in Oskaloosa.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Iowa Chapter.
