UPDATE: The City is working with State and local partners to ensure the transition of leadership and public safety services. The Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office are conducting an investigation into the facts and circumstances. At this time, there is no foul play suspected, and there is no threat to the public.
According to a Jefferson County official, Chief Dave Thomas of the Fairfield Police Department has died.
On Tuesday morning, authorities at the Jefferson County Jail said it’s an open investigation and they have no further comment.
