A domestic dispute led to the arrest of a local resident, who allegedly injured the victim and ignored an existing protective order.
On October 12th, the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a domestic dispute call on the 100 block of E. Court Street. According to court documents, Casey Grove, 43, of Ottumwa, struck the victim multiple times in the head, causing bleeding from the victim’s right ear. The victim reported difficulty hearing and described Grove’s actions as painful and frightening, placing her in immediate fear.
Police records indicate that Grove and the victim have been in a relationship for approximately two years. A valid protective order was issued against Grove on October 15th, prohibiting any contact with the victim.
Grove was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail and later released on bond. He was charged with:
- Assault committed by a person subject to a protective order – Class D felony
- Domestic abuse assault – injury or mental illness, 1st offense – Serious misdemeanor
According to a police affidavit, on December 6th, Grove sent multiple messages to the victim via a messaging application. He was subsequently arrested and was transported to the Wapello County Jail .Grove has been released on a $500 surety bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 22nd. Grove faces an additional charge of violation of a no-contact/protective order – contempt, simple misdemeanor.
