A passenger in a vehicle was found in possession of controlled substances during a traffic stop, including marijuana and methamphetamine. The individual, with multiple prior drug convictions, was taken into custody, released on probation, and later re-arrested after a warrant was issued for a violation of probation and subsequent drug charges.
On March 6th at approximately 9:42 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department conducted a vehicle stop on West Mary Street. Johnny Walker, 40, of Ottumwa, was a passenger in the vehicle. Court documents indicate that Walker admitted to authorities that he possessed a controlled substance when a probable search warrant was about to be executed on the vehicle.
According to the police complaint, Walker removed a bag of marijuana from his pocket. During a subsequent search, officers also discovered a bag of crystalline substance. Law enforcement reported that the crystalline substance tested positive for methamphetamine using a Nartec field test kit. Court records note that Walker has multiple prior drug convictions.
Walker was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released on probation, with a $5,000 cash/surety bond set on March 7th. A bond reduction hearing was held on April 8th.
On December 12th, a warrant was issued for Walker’s arrest. He was taken into custody again on December 13th and transported back to the Wapello County Jail. Walker is currently charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance — 3rd or subsequent offense, a Class D felony — and violation of probation.
