Authorities with the Iowa State Patrol made an arrest late Friday night following a traffic stop in Marion County that led to the discovery of a protective order violation.

According to court documents, on December 13 at approximately 10:26 p.m., an Iowa State Patrol trooper conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 65 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone on Highway 5, just north of Lovilia. The vehicle turned into a residence located in Hamilton before coming to a stop.

Law enforcement made contact with a female driver and a male passenger seated in the front of the vehicle. During the interaction, the male passenger provided officers with a false name. He was later identified as Steven Keegel, 32, of Bussey.

Further investigation revealed that Keegel and the female driver are involved in an active protective order, with the female listed as the protected party. As a result, Keegel was taken into custody at approximately 11:17 p.m. for violation of a protective order.

Keegel was transported to the Marion County Jail, where he remains detained. Bond has been set at $300, and a pretrial conference is scheduled for December 22.

Keegal is being charged with Violation of No contact order-contempt (simple misdemeanor)
