A farm real estate specialist says a farm in northwest Iowa recently sold for a record $32,000 per acre.
Jim Rothermich, vice president of Iowa Appraisal, says the 35-acre Sioux County property was purchased by a local farmer who intends to plant row crops.
“There’s a lot of hog producers up there, cattle producers, and some dairy farms in that area,” he said. “So, there’s a lot of competition for land in that area when it comes up for sale. It was very high quality ground.”
He tells Brownfield the sale price came as a surprise.
“As low as corn and soybean prices are, I did not expected to see some record prices.”
Rothermich says the $32,000 per acre sale passes the state’s previous record of $30,000 per acre set in 2022, which also occurred in Sioux County.
