Luella Nieuwsma, 95, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at her home in Oskaloosa.
Luella Martha Nieuwsma, daughter of John and Rena (Vonk) Rozenboom, was born on January 12, 1930, in Lacey, Iowa. She attended country schools through 9th grade and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1948. On February 8, 1949, Luella was united in marriage to Arvin Nieuwsma, son of Henry and Irene (Andringa) Nieuwsma.
Luella loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. She also loved music and played piano in a ladies’ trio and a men’s quartet for many years. Luella was also a church organist for 74 years.
Luella is survived by her daughter, Patti (Greg) Westra; her son, Dan (Marla Van Wyk) Nieuwsma; grandchildren: Phillip (Michelle) Westra, Steven Westra, Eric (Emily) Nieuwsma, Katie (Tayler) Riggen, and Brett (Anna) Nieuwsma; great-grandchildren: Levi, Hannah, Eli, Elsie, Jack, Evan, Mabel, Clay, Walker, Ezra, Bo, Eddy, Maisy, Lottie and Ella; sister: Irene Engelhoven; sister-in-law, Nadine Rozenboom; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, husband, Arvin; an infant son, Ronald Lee; brother, Donald Rozenboom; sisters, Dorothy Ryken and Gerri Ozinga; brothers-in-law: Sybren Ryken, Garlyn Engelhoven, and Melvin Ozinga.
Funeral services for Luella will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 29, 2025, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. Doug Van Der Pol and Rev. Phillip Westra officiating. Following the services, burial will be at Forest Cemetery in the Garden of Meditation. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Sunday, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 3-5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Oskaloosa Christian School.
