A Fairfield man is facing multiple charges following a high-speed chase that ended with a rollover crash inside Evergreen Cemetery on the evening of Thursday, December 18th.

Keagen Kopp, 20, of Fairfield, was arrested and charged with eluding while exceeding the speed limit by more than 25 miles per hour, a Class D felony; operating while under the influence, first offense, a serious misdemeanor; driving while license denied or revoked, a serious misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a non-scheduled violation.

According to court records, a Jefferson County deputy observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed at approximately 8:37 p.m. on 2nd Street as it headed south toward Burlington Avenue. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the intersection of Main Street and Burlington Avenue, the vehicle failed to stop and continued eastbound at a high rate of speed.

Court documents state the vehicle then turned north onto D Street, where it reportedly ran multiple stop signs at Broadway Avenue and Kirkwood Avenue while reaching speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour. The chase ended near the intersection of D Street and Stone Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway, crashed into Evergreen Cemetery, rolled over, and came to rest on its top.

Authorities reported that Kopp admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the incident. Court records also indicate there were two passengers inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. No information regarding injuries was released.

Investigators further noted that Kopp had previously been charged with operating while intoxicated earlier this year in September, a case that was still pending at the time of this incident.

Kopp was booked into the Jefferson County Jail with a $5,000 bond and has since been released.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Fairfield Police Department, Fairfield Fire Department, and the Jefferson County Ambulance Service.
