The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges in connection with the death of a 3-year-old child in Bondurant earlier this year.
Authorities say medics were called to a residence in the 3400 block of Hawthorn Drive Southwest in June after the child was found unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, the child did not survive.
The sheriff’s office and the Polk County Medical Examiner conducted an investigation into the death. On Monday, officials announced that 41-year-old Tiffani R. Huff Holmes turned herself in to authorities on Sunday.
According to court records, Huff Holmes is accused of leaving her 3-year-old son unattended while she was the sole caregiver. Investigators say she admitted to consuming alcohol during that time. A search warrant application filed in August indicates the child likely overheated while in a closed garage.
Huff Holmes is charged with child endangerment resulting in death, a Class B felony. She is being held in the Polk County Jail on a $1,000 cash-only bond. A preliminary hearing is set for January 2.
