The Wapello County Trails Council will host a bridge lighting ceremony on Monday, November 24 at 5 p.m. on the north end of the Wabash pedestrian bridge. The event is open to the public.
Highlighting the architectural features of the historic bridge has been a dream of the trails council since the bridge was converted into a pedestrian walkway in 2007. With support from the Ottumwa RAGBRAI committee and Ridgeway Electric, the bridge now features 24 lights that wash the trusses in either white or colored light. The system can be controlled remotely, allowing for easy changes, depending on the season.
